Machame, Lemosho, or Umbwe?

GoTrek offers Machame, Lemosho, and Umbwe as Kilimanjaro route choices. The useful comparison is the complete proposed schedule and its fit for your team, rather than a route name on its own.

Compare schedules, not just names

Ask how many days your proposal spends on the mountain, where the overnight stops are, and how the guide plans the progression. Two offers with the same route name may differ in duration and support.

The current GoTrek climb-and-safari description includes seven mountain days within a 15-day program. The final daily plan depends on the selected route and team. Confirm it before booking rather than applying the same day-by-day itinerary to every route.

Be specific about experience

Kilimanjaro is described as non-technical trekking, but that does not make the altitude or consecutive walking days trivial. Tell GoTrek about recent walking trips, prior altitude exposure, and the training you can realistically do.

Umbwe is presented as a steeper, more direct approach for strong trekkers. A more direct line should not be treated as a shortcut that removes the need for an appropriate acclimatization plan. Ask why a particular route is being recommended for you.

Confirm the support around the route

Tanzania National Parks states that climbs must be guided through a licensed operator. Craig Van Hoy personally guides every GoTrek trip. Confirm the local mountain support, equipment, and arrangements in your proposal.

Ask about arrival transfers, mountain meals, camp accommodation, the transition to safari, and how weather or a change of plan would be handled. Use the official park visitor guide for current park information, then confirm the specifics of your booked program with GoTrek.
