Before you travel: a mountain trip checklist

A useful trip plan connects the mountain days with everything around them. Work through these details with Craig before booking travel, then keep the agreed information together for departure.

Before registration: agree the complete journey

Request the current route, daily outline, overnight arrangements, arrival and departure plan, and included services. For a private trip, establish which details are fixed and which remain to be decided.

Confirm the full price and outstanding costs. Nepal helicopter flights are additional and their cost remains to be quoted. For Kilimanjaro, confirm the mountain route and the safari itinerary together.

Before paying: understand the arrangements

GoTrek’s published deposit is $700 per traveler, credited toward the trip total. The remaining balance is due at least 90 days before departure. Speak with GoTrek before registering for a trip within that period.

Request the applicable cancellation, refund, and rescheduling terms in writing. Ask what happens if you leave early or weather changes the journey. A payment receipt and a confirmed trip arrangement are different records; retain both.

Before booking flights: confirm the connections

Agree the arrival airport, meeting point, transfer arrangements, and when you must be ready to start. Check how domestic or mountain flights connect with the international journey, and discuss flexibility for delays.

Check current passport, visa, entry, and transit requirements using the relevant government sources for your nationality and itinerary. Confirm baggage limits directly with the carriers and GoTrek rather than relying on a general packing list.

Before departure: review coverage and equipment

Ask the insurer to confirm how its policy applies to your actual activities, route altitude, medical treatment, evacuation, and cancellation circumstances. Ask about exclusions, authorization procedures, and who to contact if assistance is needed. Confirm GoTrek’s requirements directly.

Review your final gear list with Craig. Clarify main-bag transport, what stays in your day pack, and storage during any safari or other extension. Test essential equipment before packing.
